Rig Details

This car is a 2010 Toyota Prado 150-series VX. It’s got the 3L diesel motor and all of the goodies that come with the VX badge. – everyting from leather trim to KDSS suspension.

Barwork and Protection

The front is protecged by an ARB Deluxe bar thats’s winch compatible (just no winch yet). The standard factory bash plates and side steps are still in place. To accompany the bar are two rated recovery points for if (when) we get stuck. One great addition are the two LED daytime running lights that have been added. These are great for day time visibility but also help to give that little bit more light when we head out at night.

Suspension

The suspension has been upgraded to King Springs and Bilstein shocks. This combination handles the rough stuff really well.

Wheels and Tyres

We’ve still got the standard Toyota alloys on here as they are pretty strong and there’s no reason to change them (yet…). These are wrapped in BR Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tyres in a 265/65/18 size.

12 Volt Setup

In the front there’s an auxiliary battery with a Piranha cut-off solenoid to control the connection. This feeds back into the rear of the cabin where the fridge sits.

Engine and Drivetrain

This has the factory standard 3L turbo diesel engine with a 5-speed auto transmission. A Safari snorkel has been added but that’s the limit of engine mods on the car.

Storage Areas

In the rear there’s a set of Black Widow drawers with a built-in fridge slide. These were amongst some of the best ever made, but the company ended up going bust thanks to the influx of cheap Chinese-made systems so they aren’t made any more. These draws are great and store everything from the recovery gear to cooking equipment and food.
